Summertime cocktails for you to try at home


With the IM Bottle Shop’s very own “Drinks Festival Fringe” kicking off tomorrow, what better time for IM’s experts to share a selection of summer-time cocktails for you to try at home.

So if you're interested in mixing up some quick and delicious cocktails before heading out to grab a show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, then look no further than these delicious cocktail recipes, curated and created by our IM Bottle Shop manager, Dillon Barrie.

From fruity and creamy to zesty and sharp, Dillon has mixed up a quartet of cocktail classics with an Edinburgh twist! And to help you shake up your spirits and brave the world of mixology, head over to @imbottleshop on Instagram to watch Dillon in action, mixing up the drinks listed below. These easy cocktail recipes are simple to master via the IM Bottle Shop's step-by-step tutorials.

All the spirits listed below, and the majority of the ingredients, can be purchased from right here at Bonnie & Wild (which also has a super selection of its own cocktails on sale at the bar!).

The IM Bottle Shop is also putting on an exciting series of “Meet The Maker” tastings and events throughout August, running alongside one of the greatest spectacles of arts and culture on the planet! Find a full list of activities here, with all the tastings run between 12-5pm each day.

Whisky Twist

  • 37.5ml Glen Moray Whisky Homecoming Edition
  • 25ml Aelder Spiced Elderberry Liqueur
  • 25ml Lemon Juice
  • 12.5ml Sugar Syrup

Shake the ingredients together with cubed ice, and then fine strain the liquid over crushed ice, and then drizzle the Aelder on top. Garnish with a lemon slice!

Cranachan Sour

  • 50ml Naked Whisky
  • 25ml Lemon Juice
  • 1 Egg White
  • 12.5ml Sugar Syrup
  • 3 Raspberries

Shake the ingredients together with cubed ice, then "dry" shake the resulting liquid without ice, and then fine strain the liquid into the glass over cubed ice, and then finally garnish the drink with fresh raspberries and a bit of Maclean's shortbread (available at Bonnie & Wild's Scottish deli Soup & Caboodle.)

Marmalade Martini

  • 37.5ml Persie Zesty Citrus Gin
  • 25ml Cointreau
  • 25ml Lemon Juice
  • 1 x heaped teaspoon of Sarah Gray's Whisky Marmalade

Shake the ingredients together with cubed ice and then fine strain the liquid into a glass. Garnish with a twist of orange! (You can pick up the marmalade from our Scottish deli Soup & Caboodle.)

Espresso Rumtini

  • 50ml Mapmakers Rum
  • 1 shot of Cairngorm Guilty Pleasure Coffee
  • 25ml Sugar Syrup

Shake the ingredients together with cubed ice, and then fine strain the liquid into a glass. Pick up your coffee from Cairngorm Coffee at Bonnie & Wild.
